Quartet of Tools From Pentair's Porter-Cable Win Top Magazine Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sep 6, 2001 /PRNewswire/ -- Four new power tools from the Porter-Cable unit of Pentair, Inc. (NYSE: PNR) were awarded top ratings this summer from editors of leading trade publications, Frank J. Feraco, president and chief operating officer of Pentair's Tools Group, announced today.

"Porter-Cable has a long history of product innovation," Feraco said, "and although we have devoted much of our attention this year on the restructuring and revitalization of our tools business, we continue to make substantial investment in new product development. Among the Porter-Cable awards:

-- The model 9290 router -- the world's first cordless router -- received the Editor's Choice award from Popular Mechanics during the National Hardware Show and will be featured in the December issue of the magazine.
-- The model BN200V12 cordless brad nailer was given the Retailer's Choice Award from Do-It-Yourself Retailing, also at the National Hardware Show, and the Innovation Award from Handy magazine. Both of these magazines are expected to feature the BN200V12 in upcoming editions.
-- The model NS150A narrow crown stapler won top rating in its category in Tools of the Trade magazine. Commenting on model NS150A, the magazine's editor said, "... the Porter-Cable stapler rises to the top."
-- The model 557 biscuit jointer was given a top choice award in the September/October edition of Fine Woodworking magazine.
