MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Pentair (NYSE: PNR) announced today
that editors of Popular Science Magazine have selected Porter-Cable's new
handheld oscillating spindle sander (model 121) as a recipient of the
magazine's 2000 Best of What's New Award. Porter-Cable's spindle sander was
one of only two power tools chosen for this year's award. Porter-Cable is a
wholly owned subsidiary of Pentair, a Minneapolis-based diversified
manufacturer.
Speaking at an awards gala, exhibit, and luncheon held yesterday in New
York City, Popular Science Senior Editor, Suzanne Kantra-Kirschner said,
"Popular Science salutes Porter-Cable's Model 121 for its unique ability to
take the tool to the work, rather than the work to the tool. That's why we
chose the Porter-Cable spindle sander as one of only two power tools
recognized in the 13th annual Best of What New Awards."
Porter-Cable's Vice President of Engineering, Matt Popik, said: "Each
year, Popular Science editors review thousands of new products and technology
developments and select only a select number of them for distinction as the
Best of What's New. Popular Science is an excellent showcase for innovative
power tools like the oscillating spindle sander. We're very proud to add this
prestigious award to the growing list of accolades bestowed upon this unique
product."
Porter-Cable received the Best of What's New Award in 1989 for introducing
the first electric random orbit sander to the United States. The second award
was presented in 1997 for the introduction of Porter-Cable's line of Whisper
Series belt sanders. Porter-Cable's oscillating spindle sander, along with
other 2000 Best of What's New award recipients, are featured in the
December 2000 issue of Popular Science.
