GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2007--Pentair,
Inc. (NYSE:PNR) announced that it recently won a contract to provide
eleven new Fairbanks Morse ("Fairbanks") pumps to New Orleans,
Louisiana. Each pump is capable of pumping approximately 160,000
gallons of water per minute and will serve as additional capacity to
the city's existing water infrastructure for future hurricane seasons.
The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,
Hurricane Protection Office Division, and is valued at approximately
$22 million.
"This contract win highlights our strength in this key market and
is one of more than a dozen major flood control projects that
Fairbanks has won in the last several years," said Michael V. Schrock,
president and chief operating officer. He added that Pentair has
installed several other large flood control pumps already in Florida
and along the Gulf Coast.
The Fairbanks pumps will be installed in New Orleans' 17th Street
canal, one of three canals that serve the east bank of the city by
draining storm run-out from the city. Currently, this canal has 18
installed pumps, which move approximately 3,600 cubic feet per second
("CFS") of water; the new Fairbanks pumps will add an additional 3,850
CFS (or 1,724,800 gallons per minute) capacity. The pumps will be
shipped and installed by mid-year.
Fairbanks makes a broad range of pumps serving municipal,
commercial and industrial markets with products including large split
case, vertical turbine and vertical turbine solids-handling (VTSH(R)),
vortex, and propeller pumps. Past Fairbanks projects include pumps
with diameters as large as 140 inches and with capacities up to 1
million gallons per minute.
