EPA Recognizes Pentair Aquatic Systems with 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award

March 28, 2016

Pentair recognized for its sustained leadership to protect the environment

SANFORD, N.C. - March 28, 2016 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Pentair Aquatic Systems with a 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. Pentair's accomplishments will be recognized in Washington, D.C. on April 13, 2016.

Pentair, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2013, will be honored for its leadership in manufacturing pool pumps that earn the ENERGY STAR, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency. In order for pool pumps to earn the ENERGY STAR certification, the pumps must be at least 30-72 percent more energy efficient than typical pumps.

"More than a decade ago, we began a journey to help our customers enjoy their pools while saving energy," said Karl R. Frykman, President, Water Quality Systems, Pentair.  "In 2005, we sparked an industry-wide revolution when we became the first to introduce variable speed technology to the pool industry-years ahead of any other manufacturer. We began to educate customers about energy savings opportunities. We introduced our Eco Select® brand designation to help them easily identify our most eco-friendly pool and spa equipment options."

Frykman added, "This combination of innovation and education led to several important milestones on the journey. We became the pool industry's first manufacturer to earn ENERGY STAR certification and its first ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award recipient. Today, we are honored to become the pool industry's first manufacturer to earn its third consecutive Partner of the Year Award and the Sustained Excellence designation. We will continue to innovate and educate to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment. We value our partnership with ENERGY STAR and look forward to continuing this journey together."

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than 2.4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2014 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

"By continued collaboration with ENERGY STAR, Pentair is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate climate change," said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "I'm proud to recognize Pentair with the highest form of ENERGY STAR recognition, as the winner of the 2016 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award. Pentair demonstrates a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

The 2016 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing harmful carbon pollution through superior energy efficiency efforts. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
